Biography

Ian’s RSM timeline:

c.1990: began career in corporate finance
2006: established his own independent corporate finance boutique
2010: merged his business into RSM and became a Partner in the M&A practice.
2020: became Regional Head of M&A for the Central and South regions.

Ian has extensive experience in advising established owner managed businesses at all stages of their lifecycle, from business development and growth strategies, raising funding for development and acquisitions, to succession and exit planning. Ian has worked across a broad range of industries, more recently with a focus on the food and drink and the logistics sectors.

‘I get great satisfaction from being able to guide shareholders through what are often life-changing events. The journey together helps us develop a strong bond and many of the clients who I have worked with in the past remain good friends to this day. I also love working in a team of extremely bright, and talented individuals, who I can help develop in their roles and from whom I learn just as much each day.’

Outside of work, Ian enjoys spending time with his family. Family time is generally spent looking after his dogs and horses, with a strong emphasis on the outdoor lifestyle. When Ian is not together with his family, he can be found at a rugby match, whether it is the local village team, an international game, or continuing his commitment (through thick and a lot of thin) as a long-time supporter of Bath rugby.

Favourite thing about RSM
We are a people business and so my favourite thing about RSM is the people. The leadership and direction of the firm are strong but ultimately delivering outstanding client service is dependent upon the people who are working with that client. The culture of the firm is very open and inclusive, which encourages teams to work together across service lines to ensure clients receive a premium service, in keeping with the RSM brand.
