Our recent work
Our published work includes:
- The state of the English university knowledge exchange landscape
Expert assessment of English universities’ strategies to engage with businesses and communities, and an overview report of methods and best practices for knowledge exchange in English universities. - Issues around the commercialisation of university intellectual property
Research commissioned by BEIS to increase the understanding of how university IP commercialisation through spin-outs and technology licensing works in the UK, and identify opportunities for improvement. - Policy paper overview: Proposals for regulating consumer smart product cyber security - call for views
Research commissioned by Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) on the costs of various proposals for regulating the cyber security of consumer smart devices, to support a ‘call for views’ to inform policy as part of the Secure by Design initiative. The government has responded and wishes to legislate to create a new robust scheme of regulation to protect consumers from insecure connected products.
We are currently evaluating two major investments in cyber security for the UK Government - the Digital Security by Design Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund and Ensuring the Security of Digital Technologies at the Periphery, a Strategic Priorities Fund investment. Both these investments, and the Secure by Design programme, feature in DCMS and the Cabinet Office’s current thinking on cyber security strategy, and were the top three announcements featured in the Business Secretary’s 2019 Data Privacy Day address. We are also working directly for DCMS to evaluate its 5G Testbeds and Trials programme. We have also recently completed work to value to impact of telecoms resilience on the UK economy, as well as mapping the global economic footprint of semiconductors.
